文章内容

I think it's important to always remember you're the presentation not the slides. The slides are there to support you, they're there to support the message, and the second day start competing with the audience for the audience's attention, you're in trouble. So obviously don't put too much on the slide, but really keep the slides in a support role.

So I work a lot with science presenters, and in some cases these scientists will take the graph or the chart that they've built for a publication. So like in an article they'll take that and they'll put that up on a slide. What creates this bad situation where the audience has to decide either between looking at the slide trying to figure out all that's going on there or look at the presenter and listen to them. That's created attention that you don't want to have.

So I like it when slides are in a support role. If I'm saying something I try for it not to be on a slide. If it's on a slide I try not to say it. Unless it's so important it has to be both auditory and visual. But certainly not every slide's going to be like that. So I really like to make sure that slides are kept very much in a support role. You're the message. Slides should just be there to help.
